We stayed at the Ship Inn for two nights as we were doing a breadmaking course locally. The accommodation is of a high standard and clean and comfortable throughout. Breakfast is cooked to order and is excellent (top marks for good bacon and black pudding). Food in the restaurant is of an extremely high standard (this from someone who lives in London and eats at good/"great" restaurants regularly). The chef is very talented indeed and the quality of ingredients is top notch.
A key part of the appeal of the Ship is the staff; they are approachable, friendly and keen to engage; many five star hotels could learn an awful lot...
Newnham itself is a pretty little village with plenty to do in the surrounding area. Definitely a beautifully bucolic place. We will be back, without hesitation.

These are just some of the nice things people have said about The Ship Inn I just wanted to say thank you very much for the lovely time we had at your most excellent inn. The food was absolutely fantastic, I haven't had such a succulent and professionally cooked steak for many years. Hats off to the chef. All three of us really enjoyed our meals and will recommend you to anyone thinking of going to Gloucestershire on holiday for an evening meal or to stay. The trio of ice creams for dessert was quite literally the best ice-cream i have ever tasted. :-) The breakfast was also of very high standard, and my son Alex said it was the best black pudding ever !!! The room was lovely and the bed was really comfortable, and wehad an excellent view of the Severn from our window. "Fantastic Weekend" "Thanks ever so much for a fantastic weekend. We had a fabulous time and were well and truly looked after like royalty by your staff. The room we stayed in was gorgeous and the food amazing. We had such a good weekend. We really made the most of the local area and on Saturday we had lunch at the Ship, then explored the Village and then went cycling in the forest (we were very helpfully given directions by one of your regulars!!). Then, wow, what a meal on Saturday night! We then visited Ancre Hill vineyard in Monmouth on Sunday and then went to the show in Westbury to while away the afternoon. We didn't realise it was the quiz night on Sunday, but we had a go and came not-ashamed 3rd out of 4!. Thanks again for your hospitality and the opportunity to win such a fantastic prize. Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed your hospitality over the Easter week from the moment we arrived for lunch on Friday and you sorting out the place we had booked, to the great food we had for the remainder of our stay. We did not have to go anywhere else. We would certainly recommend your restaurant to anyone coming to your area and the four of us will hopefully be back. “Relaxing ambience in spotlessly clean surroundings” We stayed for two nights at the end of April and had room 5 with a four poster bed. Room was pleasant and very clean, as was everywhere in this inn. The owner and staff go as far as they can to accommodate you and are friendly, approachable and courteous. The evening meal and breakfast were of a high standard and not expensive. It is advisable to book to ensure a table at the weekends. They also do Sunday lunch which attracts a lot of custom from the local community. They have a garden out back with tables and seating and a very friendly happy dog called Milly ! The staff were keen for feedback and eager to hear of any issue that customers felt could be addressed to make for a higher level of comfort. We would stay again and felt it was a comfortable friendly home form home.

“Nice Position in lovely little village” We stayed at the ship inn to see the severn bore and it was a nice all round experience. The restaurant and bar was good on a saturday night and restaurant was full so maybe need to book. The river is a few minutes walk down a steep hill. “Excellent find”
We stayed here having stopped off and in Newnham. We were met by Mat who was extremely helpful and showed us the room. A sttndard style room you would expect with wardrobe, dressing table, TV, tea & coffee making facility and TV. It also had an ensuite bathroom with shower. All in all a very pleasant, clean and tidy room. We had B&B for 3 days. The breakfast were cooked to order and marvellous. We liked it so much that we didn't bother looking for anything else for our evening meals and ate there also. The evening meals were excellent and great value. We will certainly go back again.
